Learning the guitar

Every Wednesday afternoon we are learning the guitar with Ms Traill, our music teacher. We have been playing open string E and B. It is OK. We are playing small tunes. We each have our own guitar. They are three quarter sizes.

Active maths

In active maths we made graphs about the class's body sizes then we made surveys. Ours were favourite singers and favourite tv programmes. Yesterday we worked with stopwatches to see how long it takes to pick up a ruler and then do some thing of our choice and time it. Bye.

India Project

By Tartan Terror and Robin Red Breast

Hi! It's us and we're going to tell you about our India Project which we are doing with our head teacher, Mrs Hilsley. We have split into different groups and each group is studying something in India. Robin Red Breast is looking at Indian clothes in her group and Tartan Terror is looking at wildlife. At the end of the project we have to present our findings in some way. Robin Red Breast is doing a video and Tartan Terror is doing a talk. We haven't really started researching yet but we are looking forward to doing so!

Scottish Poem

Here is Tartan Terror reciting a Scottish Poem at our Burns Supper. The poem is called 'Address to the Deil' which is Scots for 'Address to the Devil'. Every class had a competition to see who could recite a Scottish poem best and Tartan Terror won in P7.

Burns Supper

On Sunday 25th January, it was Rabbie Burns' birthday. If he was still alive he would be 250 years old. In case you don't know who Rabbie is, he is a famous Scottish poet. We had our Burns Supper to remember him on the Wednesday 26th January. For lunch we had the traditional Scots meal - haggis, neeps and tatties! In English this is haggis turnips and potatoes. We had poems recited by a winner from each class and we had a very special visitor - the haggis, piped in by an old pupil who had left the school. This means that the haggis was brought in while somone played the bagpipes (a Scottish instrument). Someone also recited a poem called Tam o' Shanter, a poem by Rabbie Burns himself. WE ALL HAD A GREAT TIME!

Egg Project

We are doing a project where we have to make a car that can carry an egg without breaking it! The car can have no propulsion except from gravity. It has to go as far as possible from the top of a slope. Bramble's car went 6m 60cm + . It could have gone further but there was no more room in the hall. Tinkerbell's car when 4m 90cm but it did go in a straight line! Next week we will test our models outside! We hope it goes well!!! We are looking forward to it!

Scottish Opera

Scottish Opera is helping P6 & 7 do a play this term. We are doing it with St. Mary's (another primary school). It's called "The Sands of Time" and involves lots of singing. We did a Scottish Opera play in P6 so we know what it's like. We will perform it in front of our parents and we have to wear really weird costumes! There are three groups in the opera: the Egyptians, the explorers (that's us) and the Assyrians! The Scottish Opera people come and show us what to do, and they tell us the storyline and how to act. We always have a laugh while we are doing it because it's really funny! Some of the adults take part in the play and they are really funny to watch. We will perform to the Knox (the high school we go to in the summer) students later on in the term as well as our parents! It's going to be really embarrising because Human Nessie's big sister is going to be there! But we are kind of looking forward to it, arn't we?

The egg project

This term our project is called the egg project. We have to create an egg vehicle that can carry an egg across a farm yard with out pushing it. We have to launch it down a slope without it breaking.
We have to make our cars robust so that it can be used a lot. Everybody likes the project and our group smashed a hard boiled egg. Lots of cars have already broken. My cart is called The Eggster 3000.

Rugby

P7 are playing rugby outside for an hour every Friday. The strange thing is that there are only 6 boys and 19 girls but the boys put up with it so we manage. First we started with passing and now we are playing actual rugby games. We are really enjoying it, but sometimes it is really cold but we warm up when we run around. Adder already plays rugby and sometimes helps us when we are stuck!!! We have been doing rugby for 8 weeks and we are getting really good at it. We hope you like rugby as well and hope to hear from you again.

Paul Burn

Hi, I am Paul Burn, aged 11. My favourite sport is basketball. I find 'Family Guy' hilarious. I like the movie Iron Man. My favourite food is sausage and egg sandwiches. I can't stand the taste of bananas. I want to be a professional roller blader when I am older.

Oscar the robot

Last term a robot came to visit the school. He is owned by our local nuclear power station. He came to teach the whole school about safety. He could move around, wave his arms and speak. One of our teachers got a fright when she was walking through the hall at the start of the day. She though he was turned off, but Oscar suddenly spoke to her and she jumped! Here are Adder and Rob Roy MacGregor with Oscar.

Happy New Year

Happy New Year to all our friends in Gyllenborg Skole. We have enjoyed reading about you and seeing your pictures. Some of you look very cool!

I think you are very like us. Your boys all seem to love football. The girls write about going shopping!

I hope everyone got the presents they were hoping to receive at Christmas.

I have added a few more photos to some to the posts our children wrote at the end of last term. Now you can get a little idea of what our election was like. It is also time for me to put some new photos on our P7 page on the school website. I will do that in the next few days.
