Special Assembly

On Tuesday the 17th of February me (Adder) and Rob Roy McGregor held a JRSO assembly. JRSO stands for junior road safety officer. It is our job to tell people about safety on roads and safety in the dark. Our assembly was on safety at night and safety on the roads. We tried a new song which was a success. We did two small experiments. Apart from two minor hiccups it went smoothly.

Global Rythems

On the 24th of February we had a visitor in our school. He was called Carlos ( he was Spanish). He was a dancer and he taught us some moves. First of all we did some disco, Highland dancing. It was very fun but it was quite tiring. Then we did cowboy dancing. It was very fun(Loch Ness liked the it the best)! We finished off with some salsa dancing! It was really good fun, and we would love to have him back some other time.

Sarah Cowie

On Friday Sarah Cowie from a museum came to tell us about myths and legends around the Borders. She showed us some objects from different time periods and they were very interesting! Sarah also told us some myths - some of them were quite scary!!!
We went in partners and she gave us an object to write a story about. Me, Robin Red Breast went in partners with Tartan Terror and we got an old record of Peter and the Wolf. We wrote a scary story about a haunted record.... Me, Bracken, went with Saltire and Neap. We got a pair of old curling tongs and Neap wrote a story called The Curling Tongs of DOOM!
It was really fun !!!

Papua New Guinea

Today we are dressing in the colours of the Papua New Guinea flag to raise money for UNICEF. The colours are black, yellow, red and white. We had to pay 50 pence to dress down and our money is going to UNICEF. In our class it's mainly girls who have dressed up. Some people are just wearing one colour, others have managed two and some have got them all on.

Thursday 19 February 2009

On Wednesday the 28th of January ten people from primary six and seven went to Meadowmill for a basketball tournament. There were six different teams there. We were playing five-a-side games. Lots of the teams had really tall players. We did quite well and came joint fourth. The winning team was Campie 1. We had the smallest team but we were the loudest! It was really fun. We played six games (we think) and three games were in a row. Hope we do better next year.

We've got mail!

All right! The package you sent us arrived on Friday, and we gathered to open it during lunch yesterday. We love it! You have really made quite an effort of putting together a great gift for us! The big Scottish flag was especially popular. Thank you very much, Yester! Here you'll see 7A and Truls while opening the package. You can't see me, since I was the photographer!

By the way, we'll see if we can compose a little something for you as well...

Thanks once again! From Truls, Magnus, and the gang of 7A.

Swimming Gala Final

As we already told you we went to the final of a swimming gala. We thought that we would do okay but not bring home any trophies or medals. It was mostly down to the relay race ( the last race ). The Human Nessie went first followed by Adder. Bramble went next and then a boy from the year below us finished. He had to catch up with two other people to win ... and he did!!! It was funny because the comentator was saying it was between two other schools while Mr Purves (the teacher that was with us) was shouting " NO IT'S YESTER!!" It turned out that we had come first by less than a milisecond! That gave us DOUBLE POINTS!!! We won the points trophy because of it! We also won the relay race trophy (of course). The boy in the year below us won a trophy all by himself for being closest to getting a record plus winning the most races. We also all got a green ribbon and he got THREE!! So all in all we got Three trophys and lots of green ribbons!

Rotary Quiz

Last Friday, four people from Yester went to a rotary Quiz. Thistle, Adder, Tartan Terror and Human Nessie went to the Quiz. The Quiz was asking people questions on general knowledge. I, Robin Red Breast, didn't go, but Thistle did!

There were eight sections in the quiz, each with different types of questions. The first one was books, the second was general knowledge, and there were lots of other ones. The first few were easy but some were really hard! One of the questions was what is the lightest gas and that one was quite difficult. We either came third or second but there were only three schools competing in all. Kings Meadow Primary came first.

Do you do any competing Quizes? Let us know!

Guitar Hero

We are going to do a project on Guitar Hero World Tour on the x-box 360. It has got a guitar, drums and microphone. We are really excited about using the x-box next term!! Some of us have used the x-box before but some haven't. Have you ever used the x-box?

the jungle

P7 have been working on the bay in our classroom. We are turning it into a jungle and we think it's really fun and very exciting! We are painting bits and we all have our own area. We sometimes have to use extra long paintbrushes. We do this by tying lots of brushes together, and it's really funny watching people using them.

Thistle is making a monkey in the grass and Fudge is doing a tree with a snake around it. Today we are painting the whole background blue for the sky, using the extra long paintbrush! The whole bay is being covered in newspaper and Mr. Devereux is putting masking tape around the edge of the ceiling.

News Update

After school closed yesterday it rained so most of the snow is gone and we're back at school. Boo hoo! There are some good things happening though, like tomorrow some people are going to a basketball tournament although we are playing at a place called Meadowmill and it is like playing two aside basketball in our school hall because it's so big. Also, tomorrow some people are going orienteering at the beach. Sadly, unless somone's mum or dad can help with transport, we won't be able to go. I hope someone's mum can come! Then on Friday there is a swimming competition! Some people had gone to the competition a couple of weeks ago and this one is the final. I'm really looking forward to it! It was really good because all the people did it the first time got through!! I, The Human Nessie, am going to both the basket ball and the swimming. I'm going to be exhausted! But luckily, we have the February Break to look forward to. That is a whole week and a day! Yay! Sadly, the Scottish Opera, which we told you about before, got postponed. They made this decision yesterday when there was a snow blizzard going on. It was forecasted to be even worse today but they were wrong. The Scottish Opera has been postponed to the 1st of June. At least it gives us more time to practise the songs!
