Bowling

On the 29th of April some people from P6 and 7 went to Meadowmill to play in a bowls competition. We were split into two groups. We were group two. On our first game we won by one point. On our second game we played Pinkie St Peters (another school in East Lothian). We won 16 to 2. Then we had lunch. After lunch we played another game that we won. We were chosen to play for third place in the finals! But unfortunately we lost. We came forth out of sixteen schools.

Meadowbank

Just now in gym we are training for Meadowbank.
At Meadowbank there are different events like: High Jump, Long Jump, Cricket Ball Throw, Tug of War, Sprint, Relay Race and more.
My favourites (Loch Ness) are the High Jump and The Tug Of War.
My favourites (Saltire) are Cricket Ball Throw, Long Jump and Relay Race.
Meadowbank is a big sports place, where lots of schools are trying to win their event.
Lots of people don't get to go because you only have a few people who go to each event.

Planting bulbs in the nursery

Before Easter, the ground force team planted some seeds with the nursery class. We planted nasturtiums. We had to put some compost in a pot then make a hole with your finger. Once we had done that we had to put the seed in the hole and cover it with more compost. We had the compost in a bucket and one little boy tipped it upside down and compost went everywhere!!! It was a lot of fun and as a reward we got a piece of cake each. (YUMMY!!!)

Active maths

On the Open Morning we did active maths where we had to find out how many millilitres (ml) a bottle could hold. Everyone had to get a measuring container and find out how many ml the bottle could hold. At the end people had done a lot of measuring and there was lots of water on the floor.

Animation Project

In our environmental studies time we are doing an animation project. It's really fun, even though it's also very difficult. The characters keep falling over and their heads keep falling off. We are all having a great time. The whole thing is based on the history, myths and legends of the Borders area of Scotland. Some people are doing a film on the Romans, some on castles, some on horses and some on people. Thistle's group is doing one on The Pink Lady and Adder's group is doing his on Romans and Borders. To find out more look at : http://www.landsbeyondthewall.co.uk/ We all enjoy our project.

Thank you!

Thank you, Gyllenborg skole, for sending us a present. We are very pleased and we have looked at all the maps and now have a better idea where your school is. The oldest and youngest pupil opened the present. The oldest got sharp scissors and the youngest got tiny scissors and others pulled at the box. In the first photo you can see everyone crowding round just after the box was opened.

Mary Poppins

Some people from primary 7 and primary 6 were doing a sort of play on Mary Poppins. We only had 6 weeks to learn it but unfortunately some people quit so we almost had to STOP the whole play. In the end we managed it. We did it and it lasted 45 minutes. We had so much fun.

Open Morning

We had an open morning at Yester Primary School. An open morning is when parents come into the school and see what goes on. They look at our work and have a look at all our projects. They sometimes chat to our teacher and ask questions about our class projects when we are working. We enjoyed seeing our parents and they enjoyed seeing our work.

The Eco group run the Fair Trade stall and they were selling Easter gifts too! We had our Easter assembly and that was fun because all our parents came to watch. Rugby Festival

P7 went to play a rugby festival at the Gifford park. We were split into groups and we played a match. It wasn't a full contact rugby game. It was touch rugby. Touch rugby is when you touch the person with the ball on the waist with both hands and that means that the person with the ball has to pass to someone in their team.
We had lots of fun!!!

Football

Yesterday we got a football lesson from SFA (Scottish Football Association). We played a game with cones and we had to run around and stay to our coloured cone . Then we split into two teams and played a game where one person from one team ran out with a ball and try to score a goal. But the other team ran out too and tackled them. We were going to have some matches but the goals were blowing away so we played handball!

Royal Bank of Scotland Visit

On the 18th of March two women came from Royal Bank Of Scotland to tell us about opening our own bank acounts. They told us about debit cards and bank statements. We did a Quiz about a personal bank statement. We got all the right answers. One of them told us what would happen if our card was stolen. We found out there is a fraud team in each bank who try to find out about who stole the card. We thought that was cool because it be like spying on people.

Rugby

Every Friday for three weeks we are doing rugby in the class. We are doing it with a man called Greg. We do an hour of the rugby from 10:30 until 11:30. We do scrums, line outs and passing. It is sometimes sunny but most of the time it is cold and muddy. Sometimes people slip and get very muddy and wet. After we have played some rugby we play games like splat and sharks and fish.

Red Nose Day!

Red nose day belongs to a charity to raise money for children in Africa who have no homes and for children in the U.K. who have difficulties. This charity is called Comic Relief.
It was on the 13th of March.
We raised money by selling red noses, dressing down, having wacky hair and selling red nose cakes. We had lots of fun . We raised a total of £235!
We all had alot of fun and we do it every year!
The red noses that we sell in school cost £1 and most children buy 1 or maybe even 2!!!
In Golden time we had a fashion show.

Bowling

Today a man called Alec came to do bowling with us. But this was not ten pin bowling though, it was another type of bowling (We don't know the name). There was a small yellow ball called a jack (you aimed at this) and lots of other balls called bowls. What you did was, you rolled the bowls towards the jack. But there was a catch!!! The bowls always swerved to one side; so when you aimed you had to think about which way it would roll. For example if you held the bowl in a certain way it would roll to the left. So you had to aim to the right! This made it VERY difficult. There was also a target pad which had numbers on it. For example if you landed on three you got three points. It was really fun!

We had a great time last Wednesday with Dawn and Shona doing Drama!! We had to do lots of games and activities like making a huge monster in our groups. It was so much fun. We got to do drama for an hour and a half. Everyone was pleased about that. We prepared in groups to show in front of the class our scenes. It was really fun!

The Stock Market Game!

This week was money week, and we played the stock market game. I, Robin Red Breast, was with Stardust, and Berry was with Loch Ness. We started out with £50 and we had to buy and sell shares in companies to gain money. On the white board was the Daily Blah Blah, which told us news, and if it said something like " Long Hot summer expected" then we could work out that the Irn Bru company would go up. It was great fun and so far I, Robin Red Breast have £47. 75!!! I, Berry got £ 84!!!! It's a GREAT game and today were going to see who has won...

Enterprise is the business!

On Tuesday we went down to the Knox Academy; this is where most of us will be going to high school next year. We were in different groups and we had to make products to sell. They had to be VERY high quality or the shop wouldn't buy them. The group with the most money won the golden medal. The Human Nessie and Adder were in the winning group (you can see Adder in teh photo getting his medal). There was also a medal for the group who made the highest quality products. Thistle and Loch Ness were in this group. Well done them! At the end of the day we learnt how to look after money and how to work well in teams. It was great fun and we learnt a lot about money.

Class Judo

On Friday we had a judo taster from a man called Colin a.k.a Coco. We learned different judo moves and games. We all had great fun and we had to go in partners for most of the time. The only problem was the mats were really rough and we all got sore knees. It looked like we had pricked ourselves with needles but it was funny! We learned how to flip somebody over and how to defend ourselves. LOL!!!!!

Interviewed! By Robin Red Breast

As you know, on Tuesday we went to the Risk Factory! I, Robin Red Breast and William Wallace were chosen to be interviewed by some camera people! We were taken to the front room, and a man with the camera filmed us and a woman asked us questions like: " What was the first activity you did?" I almost felt famous! A group with some of my friends, Turnip, Highlander, Adder, Fudge, Stardust and William Wallace were filmed doing a scene where they are visiting a house and there's a fire. Because I was getting interviewed I got filmed doing the fire scene too! Mr. Devereux took a photo of us being interviewed, which is next to this post. I was REALLY nervous when I got interviewed, but it was actually GREAT fun!

Bramble came 1st, the Human Nessie came 6th and Whisky came 7th. The yester girls' team won because we had the least points (14). Bramble got a medal and we all got a certificate! Risk Factory

On Tuesday we went to the Risk Factory in Edinburgh. It was really fun and we all enjoyed it! It was about making mistakes that could happen to you in real life. There were real streets and houses inside and we were all amazed! We were separated into four groups and we went around the risk factory doing different activities. There were different risks such as getting run over by a train, being in a fire, being on a building site, catching diseases, drowning, being in a vandalised bus and what to do when you are being robbed. We also got the chance to be detectives and learn about staying safe on the Internet!!! It is a great place for making mistakes as it isn't actually real! Tinkerbell couldn't understand if something was real or pretend but we all got lessons on how to cope with something that could happen. There was also a film crew so we got filmed at different sections as well! Some of us even got to dial 999! We all enjoyed the bit with the fire because it was most fun but we can't tell you any more because we are not supposed to!

Special Assembly

On Tuesday the 17th of February me (Adder) and Rob Roy McGregor held a JRSO assembly. JRSO stands for junior road safety officer. It is our job to tell people about safety on roads and safety in the dark. Our assembly was on safety at night and safety on the roads. We tried a new song which was a success. We did two small experiments. Apart from two minor hiccups it went smoothly.
